The Northern Cardinal is one of the most popular of birds– in fact it is the state bird of seven states. The male cardinal's brilliant red and elegant shape calls attention to itself. Both the male and female sport a sharp crest on their heads. The female is equally elegant with her warm, brown hues and warm red accents. Cardinals don't migrate and don't molt so they're stunning in a snowy winter backdrop. In addition to their visual beauty, their clean whistles are a delight in the morning.
